ABOUT US
Alison Hood BSW (Hons)
Alison Hood has an honours degree in Social Work and has had many
years working with children and families.
Alison is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers and
abides by their Code of Ethics.
Alison aims to help people to understand themselves better and for
them to learn skills that will enable the building of stronger
relationships with others.
Alison has a particular interest in working with children and
families. Studies have shown that children thrive when they feel
loved and secure and understood. Yet children often have to deal with
a variety of emotions that they don’t yet know how to deal with.
Crying, shouting, hitting and tantrums are some of the ways that
children release their sadness, anger and frustration. Alison
aims to help children to learn how to manage these feelings, as well
as helping parents in their relationships with their children. Teenage
years also can lead to rifts in family relationships. Parenting is not
easy and every family is different and Alison determines what will
best help each family situation, so that each person within the family
is able to be heard and better understood.
Alison has a broad range of experience working with children,
teenagers and adults who have been living with emotional, social
and/or behavioural issues. Often these have been caused by
difficulties with anxiety, attachment, self-esteem, friendships,
bullying, school, health, grief and loss, trauma, parental separation,
domestic violence, crisis, as well as many forms of abuse, including
sexual assault.
Alison’s work has included many years working in a school environment,
providing pastoral care for students and families, as well the whole
school community, including teachers and parents.
